One of the people I’m friends with on Facebook shared this, and I just…. I don’t even really have words. All I know is that I’m disgusted by this attitude and once again finding myself losing respect for middle-class people who think they know better.
Do you know what it’s like to have to survive on minimum wage? I’m sure that this person has absolutely no idea what it’s like to have to try and feed three children and pay bills on minimum wage, like my mother has. I’m willing to bet that they’ve had better options in their life, so they don’t have to become “Johnny Fry-Boy”. And I am pretty convinced that they’ve never had to decide between buying new school clothes and putting groceries in the house.
Let me tell you something. Minimum wage, as it is, is. Not. Livable. Do you honestly think the people working in these industries want to struggle this way? Do you truly believe that they did not want something different for themselves? No one envisions themselves working at McDonald’s to serve pretentious assholes like you, but life throws us curveballs we can’t always dodge, and frankly, I am fucking ashamed that you think people who work these jobs are lesser than you for it. I’d like to see you try it. I’d like to see you sacrifice your time, patience, and health to work a shitty job like this and constantly be bullied and shit on by pretentious assholes who think they know what’s best for the poor.
"If you don’t want minimum wage, don’t have minimum skills." Oh, I’m sorry- I didn’t know that working a minimum wage job automatically sorts all of the employees into a general pool of "unskilled" people. There are people who have fucking college degrees working these jobs. What about them? What would you have to say about the college graduates who can’t fucking find a job in the field they indebted themselves to get into?
This isn’t about a lack of respect for people in the service. Not at all. Because they deserve good pay just as much as anyone else in this country- but I will be damned if you use that as a shield to make your prejudices look more justifiable.
"Chosen" this as a lifelong profession. People do what they have to in order to get by, and if that means bagging your groceries or making your kids a fucking McFlurry, then that’s what they’ll do. Take this post and shove it up your prejudiced, pretentious, ignorant ass.
Someone posted this on IG and said “The fast food worker knew what he was getting into he should’ve chosen a better job.” I responded “you knew that you would be shot at and risk your life daily, should’ve chose a better job.”
Honestly, the military pays for shelter, food, and health care so I really don’t want to hear it.
i am laughing because i just started imagining a gordon ramsay-like feminist writer who, rather than helping to keep restaurants in business, goes to writers of television shows and films and chastises them for the sexism, racism, and general lack of diversity in their scripts
"YOUR SCRIPT IS AS WHITE AS THE PAPER IT’S PRINTED ON, YOU DONKEY."
I really fucking hate it when guys act like marriage is literally the end of their lives like if it’s so fucking bad, and you hate it so much, don’t get fucking married and put your spouse through hell because you’re shit. If you feel trapped you’re doing it wrong.

Nice try, Jean.
